Volunteer fire brigades
AT 4.30am on January 20, brigade mem-
bers were called to a scrub fire on On-
garue Stream Rd caused by a broken
power line arcing to ground. The crew
waited for the power to be shut down to
ensure the fire didn’t spread. There was
no major damage.
FIREFIGHTERS responded to a crash on
SH4 on January 25 but no action was
needed. They were required later that
day at 1.30pm when a truck rolled on
SH30 near Benneydale. No injuries were
reported. The truck blocked one lane for
an hour before being removed. Firefight-
ers then washed down the road. Te Kuiti
brigade members were also called but
were turned back en route.
AT 2.30pm on Sunday, crew members
were called when a car crashed on SH30
at Ranganui Rd. It was a minor crash and
the driver was not injured. Mangakino
firefighters also attended.
AT 7.40pm, the crew responded to a
farmer trapped under her quad bike at a

THE crew battled a small vegetation fire
on Aria Rd for an hour on Saturday. The
alarm was raised at 9pm. Only minor
damage was reported.
AT 1.27pm on January 25, brigade mem-
bers were called when a car rolled on
SH4 near Kopaki Rd. The driver, who suf-
fered minor injuries, was out of the ve-
hicle when firefighters arrived. Police, St
John and Benneydale and Piopio brigades
FIREFIGHTERS were required on Satur-
day afternoon to investigate the smell of
gas outside Wheels Restaurant on Carroll
St. No major leak was found.
AT 10.05am on Saturday, firefighters
were called when an abandoned car was
deliberately set alight on Kahotea Rd.
BRIGADE members responded at
10.15am on Wednesday when a car
rolled on Ngutunui Rd. The driver and
one passenger suffered minor injuries.
